Contactless cards and how they work

The latest in secure payment technology

The contactless card transaction is completed by holding or tapping the card on a contactless-enabled card reader.

How do I know if my card can make contactless payments?

If your card features the Contactless Indicator  on either the front or back, you can tap to pay where you see the Contactless Symbol  at many of your favorite stores.

How do I use my contactless card to tap and pay?

Look - Check for the Contactless Symbol  on the store’s checkout terminal.

Tap -  When prompted, bring your card within a few inches of the Contactless Symbol  on the checkout terminal. Depending on the terminal, you may tap on, above, or below the screen.

Go - Your payment is securely processed in seconds. Once your payment is confirmed, you’re good to go!

Why does my new card look different?  Where is my account information?

If you've recently received a new debit card, you may notice one major difference in its appearance:  It no longer has names and numbers on the front.  Instead, numbers, names, expiration dates and CVV codes are on the back. Changing the placement of the account information results in two convenient features.  First, it protects users' information.  Moving the numerals and information to the back keeps the account information out of plain sight, useful in public places, such as restaurants where cardholders might lay it flat on the table when paying the bill.  Second, it puts all the card information in one place, no more flipping the card over to provide expiration date or CVV code when online or over phone shopping.

Where do I use contactless cards to tap and pay?

In the U.S., thousands of merchants of all sizes accept contactless payments. Tap to pay at many of your favorite places like fast-food restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies, vending machines and more. Just look for the Contactless Symbol  at checkout.

If you don’t see the Contactless Symbol on the checkout terminal, you can still swipe or insert your contactless card, just like any other debit or credit card.
